Despite a mild beginning to November, the UK finds itself in the grip of an icy blast, with snow blanketing many regions.

The Met Office has issued an extensive 530-mile snow warning amid this frosty onslaught that has gripped the nation.

Chilly Brits are buzzing about the winter weather on social media, expressing their surprise at the flurry of flakes.

One person excitedly stated: "It's snowing! I know this phenomenon is common in other areas of the UK but we do not get snow in Devon and Cornwall. Another was astonished: "I actually can't believe all the snow in the UK in November!"

Forecasters have predicted that Britons should brace themselves for another snowy encounter as an 'Arctic chill' is set to swoop in during early December. So, how can we stay snug?

In an effort to fend off the frostbite, scores of UK residents are cranking up their heating systems. Yet, given the cost of living crisis, many are dodging the central heating to prevent a spike in their energy bills.

To lend a hand during these tough times, Emily Caloe, Senior Buyer at domestic essentials giant Vonhaus, has identified three products designed to keep you cosy without costing the earth.

Heating typically consumes more than half of the monthly energy expenditure for an average British household, with the figures for heating a three-bedroom property ranging from £1650 to £1950. Moreover, remote workers tend to bear the brunt even more, shelling out extra to ensure their home office remains toasty throughout the day.

Emily shared: "As remote working continues to be the norm, many will find themselves juggling productivity with cost-consciousness. However, keeping warm during working hours without breaking the bank can be a delicate balance.

"Heating the whole house can be a very inefficient way of beating the chill and it's often better to create a personal warmth zone to keep costs down."

Here are the must-have items for a snug, budget-friendly winter.

Heated blankets and throws

When temperatures plummet, cosy up and save with a heated blanket a snug, energy-efficient addition to your bedding.

Heated blankets and throws provide an excellent solution to stay warm without the need to heat an entire house or even, a full room.

These comfy companions are designed to deliver warmth directly to your body, making them ideal for snuggling on the sofa or staying warm while working at your desk.

Heated blankets are one of the most cost-effective ways to keep warm. They typically use between 100 to 150 watts of power, which translates to around 2 to 3 pence per hour in energy costs.

This is significantly cheaper than using central heating, especially if you're working in a single room. For instance, if you use a heated blanket for eight hours a day, it would cost you between 16p and 24p.

Stove heaters

UK homes are notorious for being draughty and poorly-insulated so warming one room at a time with a heater is a cost-effective alternative.

A freestanding electric stove might be just the ticket for heating larger spaces. Not only does it provide warmth over long periods, but it also adds a touch of class and sophistication to your abode.

You can even get electric stove heaters with all the rustic allure of traditional wood burners, minus any smoke and fumes.

Caloe suggests: "If you’re really looking to cut costs, choose a stove with thermostatically controlled smart features to ensure your heater automatically switches off or on according to room temperature.

"For best results, pair your stove heater with a bespoke stove fan to maximise your log burner’s heat and ensure an even distribution throughout your living spaces."

Oil-filled radiators

If you need another warming solution, look no further than an oil-filled radiator - effortlessly cosy heat at the simple press of a button. These devices use thermal oil, which releases heat into surrounding spaces.

And when it comes to value for money, these radiators hit the mark with operational costs averaging 49p for every hour theyre in use. Plus, unlike their conventional counterparts, oil-filled variants keep on giving off warmth even after being switched off.

Their ease of portability means you can transport them to wherever you set up shop.

Many of these radiators come with adjustable high/low heat options, giving you control over your environments temperature.

This feature, alongside their convenience, makes them perfect for that extra bit of hassle-free warmth in autumn, especially for those spots without fixed radiators.
