When you're in the public eye, you face all sorts of praise and criticism.
Karina Irby is one person who knows this all too well. The body positive influencer, who boasts more than one million followers on Instagram, is known for sharing uplifting advice about body image.
The bikini designer celebrates curvier bodies and encourages women not to cover up their cellulite and skin imperfections. But, recently, she turned her attention to the US election due to the concerning messages she's been receiving from men.
Even though she doesn't live in America, a few men have got in touch with her to tell her they're "in charge" of her body now Donald Trump is set to be president again. One man even wrote to tell her: "Your body, our rules." Meanwhile, another said: "Men will save the world while stupid women like you destroy it with your abortions and menstrual cycle. F*** you."
Someone else also questioned why Karina doesn't want children, writing: "You say you don't want kids? Well don't fall pregnant because Australia is about to learn the right way from us."
Karina decided to give people a taste of some of her DMs to show others exactly how the US election has impacted women around the world. Some of the cruel remarks were truly horrifying.
She wrote: "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs, but the projection and pure anger in some people makes my blood boil. What does a woman’s reproductive choices and organs have to do with you?
"The sexist mindset and foul language used by some of these people shows only a peek into the world of being a woman and coping with this type of abuse. IT'S SCARY BEING A F*** WOMEN. And it’s 2024!?
"Not all Trump supporters are abusive, sexist pigs. But all abusive, sexist pigs are Trump supporters."
The post has been liked more than 29,000 times since Karina shared it, and several women opened up about their own experiences dealing with this sort of abuse. One man admitted he's "embarrassed" to be male sometimes.
One person wrote: "Name names. We’re p****d in America. Women are crying and screaming… screaming. Alone in their homes, with their girlfriends. Every person who writes or supports these messages deserves to be outed. With love."
Another added: "On behalf of real men who have a moral compass and empathy, I apologize."
A third also replied: "As a man, I am disgusted with what these other men are saying. Women are in control of their own bodies. We don’t have any access to them without their consent point-blank."
Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "Who hurt these men? They literally have mothers. How can they spew this much hate towards women?!"
