One Greggs branch has clamped down on customers who keep their headphones in while at the counter.
One of the bakery chain's branches in Croydon, South London has said it will refuse customers who do not remove their headphones when they are served by Greggs staff. Those who cannot pull away from their phones are also in the firing line.
In a notice in the South London Greggs reads: “When in queue, remove your headphone/AirPods and come off phones or we may have to refuse service.”
A staff member at the branch told The Sun: “We get more and more customers coming in who seem to be lost in another world. We try to be helpful and get everyone served quickly during busy times but it’s impossible if customers can’t hear a word you’re saying. The sign is pretty blunt but we have no option.”
A source from Greggs said the crackdown was not a company wide policy but the chain did not officially comment on it.
This week, the high street bakery chain revealed the exact date the Festive Bake would arrive back in stores. The baked good - which consists of crumb-topped pastry filled with chicken, sage, onion stuffing, and bacon, covered in a creamy sage and cranberry sauce - has become a staple part of Christmas for Brits across the country. This year, Greggs customers will be able to get their hands on bake starting on Thursday, November 7.
Alongside the Festive Bake, Gregg's Christmas menu also features a vegan version - called the Vegan Festive Bake - the Christmas Lunch Baguette and the Festive Flatbread.
The vegan version of the bake—which returned after a hiatus last year—consists of puff pastry filled with savoury Quorn mycoprotein pieces, sage and onion stuffing balls, and vegan bacon, with a mouth-watering cranberry and red onion sauce. It will be launched in Greggs stores on Friday, November 8.
The Christmas Lunch Baguette and the all-new festive Flatbread - which consists of a flatbread stuffed with sage & onion style chicken mayo, sweetcure bacon and a cranberry and red onion relish - are both available in Greggs stores now.
