Davina McCall can't explain her rosey outlook on life - admitting that the difficulties of her past may have pulled others down.

The 57-year-old TV icon has been through many testing times over her years - including an addiction to heroin and more recently going into surgery for an emergency operation on her brain. The My Mum, Your Dad host alarmed fans this month when she revealed she needed emergency treatment after doctors discovered a benign brain tumour.

She underwent surgery earlier this week and is said to be recovering well. Now a podcast episode has been released - recorded before her surgery - where she reflected on life's trials and her personal philosophy. Davina, who has been divorced and has been dating her boyfriend, Michael Douglas, since 2017, says she is "annoyingly positive".

Admitting she cannot understand why she has such a bright outlook, the star reasoned that it must simply be part of her in-built personality. She shared her thoughts while discussing life on her latest podcast, titled the Begin Again podcast.

The star mused: "I have been through so many things and sometimes I have wondered why I am still such a positive person. I am actually aggravatingly and annoyingly positive. But I don't know if you can change things like that about yourself really."

Davina has another podcast, called Making The Cut, in which she shared her fears about going under the knife and explained how her boyfriend, Michael Douglas, was supporting her. She revealed: "All I know is that I've chosen an amazing surgeon, I have absolute faith in him. I'm going to give him the steering wheel and strap myself into the passenger seat and enjoy the ride. As they're putting me under - which is such a nice feeling by the way - I'm going to set an intention and I'm going to say, 'love, love, love, all the way'."

She also revealed she had been trying to "ignore" the surgery, and recalled the surprise she felt over her diagnosis, saying: "I waltzed into this health check cocky. It's me, fitness lady, and I came out with a benign brain tumour. I slightly put my head in the sand because they said it's a colloid cyst and sometimes it grows and sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it just stays stable for years.

"So I thought well I don't need to do anything about it, they can just scan me again. Then somebody called me and said they'd like to make an appointment with a neurosurgeon and I was like, 'That doesn't sound good!' So I went to talk to this person and he showed me my brain which blew my mind, weirdest thing ever. He pointed it out to me, it's right in the middle of my brain."

Following her surgery, Michael shared a post to update Davina's fans via her Instagram account. He wrote: "Update folks. Thanks so much to all the well wishers. She really has made an enormous leap forward in the last 24 hours. She is out of ICU. She is “loving awareness”. Thank you xx Michael."
