A homeowner has been praised for keeping a morbid display in their front garden, with several people commenting it is a great way to stop unwanted neighbours from coming over.
Most homeowners lucky enough to have a large garden typically dream of turning it into a welcoming and vibrant space that they are keen to show off to others. But a homeowner in the Czech Republic had other ideas.
The front garden in Vysočina county, southeast of the capital Prague, would prove eye catching for one morbid reason. Photos shared with The Mirror showed dozens of baby dolls and baby doll heads impaled on stakes around the garden.
While it is unclear why the morbid display was created, there are figures such as Halloween horror movie character Ghost Face from the Scream franchise that also occupy a space in the garden. It is not clear how long the display has been in the garden, although it is believed to have been in place for years.
Reddit user Fluid uploaded several photos of the home onto the r/Weird group on the platform, which can be seen here, after spotting it. The user captioned the post: "This house near my town. Many years ago it started 'only' with hanged babies [dolls].
"Now there are [baby doll) heads on spikes and mannequins too." The Reddit user said the display was next to a busy road, meaning many people would no doubt pass the display and, quite possibly, be left slightly horrified.
The morbid display is an interesting sight in Vysočina, a region known for its three World Heritage Sights - the most of any county in the Czech Republic. The region is the location of the Pilgrimage Church of Saint John of Nepomuk, the historical centre of Telč and the double sights of the Jewish Quarter and St Procopius' Basilica in Třebíč.
Since being shared on November 18, the post has attracted 24,000 upvotes and more than 1,500 comments. Many commenters praised the display as a way to keep unwanted people away and as a way to show off the owner's personality.
Reddit user EpistemeUM said: "What a great way to keep the neighbours from popping over." Known_Appeal_6370 added: "I admit, I'm a bit jealous of the IDGAF (I don't give a ****) of this property owner and the fear he/she instils in others."
ZMM08 commented: "This feels like the kind of thing that started as a joke but then someone complained to the town council or something and they decided to double down." OwOlogy_Expert posted: "I could see this as the logical end result of hearing a neighbour say, "I'm going to complain to the council and make you take that ugly thing out of your yard."
