Eggs have been a breakfast staple since time began, no matter how you prefer them to be cooked. But did you know that you boil an egg without cooking it in a saucepan full of water?
Chef Sam Stern has proved there’s an easy way to get perfectly boiled eggs without the need for water or a saucepan. The chef claimed they come out “exactly the same” as regularly boiled eggs.
Air fryers have become a mainstay in kitchens across the UK, praised for their versatility in cooking methods and energy-saving costs. Sam explained that you can use the must-have appliance to replicate the perfect soft boiled egg.
In a recent Instagram post, Sam said: “Did you know that you can cook boiled eggs in the air fryer? They come out exactly the same but just faster.”
Food fans lauded Sam for his air fryer hack, with @emsfoodiefix saying: “Love an egg hack!” Nadir agreed, “Eggceptional,” while Paul replied, “Eggcelent.”
Here’s how you can replicate soft boiled eggs in your air fryer.
Air fryer soft boiled eggs
Method
- Preheat your air fryer to 140C or 284F. Place the eggs into the air fryer and cook for eight and a half minutes.
- Meanwhile, get a large bowl and fill with cold water and ice. Once the eggs are cooked, quickly place into the bowl of ice water to stop them cooking.
- Allow them to sit there for two minutes. Peel the eggs and serve up.
- If you’re looking for some recipe inspiration for your air fryer boiled egg, Sam suggested serving it with an English muffin, smashed avocado, chilli flakes and sesame seeds. Or serve with your favourite choice of breakfast items.
- However, Sam did share some advice for home cooks. He urged people to be aware that air fryers can vary in their power level.
- To make sure you get your eggs just how you want them, test one by putting an egg in the air fryer to see how it cooks. You can increase or decrease the cooking time depending on how the results fair.
