Cut price fashion chain Primark has been on UK high streets since the 1970s but it sprang to prominence in the mid 2000s as it expanded after purchasing Littlewoods outlets. Despite low prices, Primark is frequently praised for its styles and has been nicknamed Primarni - a play on Armani. It is a member of the Ethical Trade Initiative, which monitors factory conditions and treatment of workers. It was among the firms to pay compensation after a 2013 building collapse in Bangladesh.
